There's a particular kind of milestone that doesn't show up on a product roadmap or in a funding announcement — the moment someone outside your immediate orbit takes a closer look at what you're building and decides it's worth talking about. That's what happened this month when Emerging Europe published "Alive and Kicking in the Baltics," a feature highlighting the startups shaping the region's innovation landscape — and NaionX was named among them.

The piece, written by Glen Hodgson, Founder & CEO of Emerging Europe, walks through the companies redefining sectors from cybersecurity and defence-tech to healthcare and clean energy across the Baltic ecosystem. Seeing NaionX placed alongside Traxlo, Buck4Bug, Luna Robotics, CardiWE, Greet, and Fivrec is something we genuinely appreciate. These are companies solving hard, real-world problems — and being recognised in that company reinforces why we started this work in the first place.

What the article says about NaionX

Glen describes our mission cleanly: NaionX is on a mission to drive the world's adoption of sodium-based battery technology through proprietary cell chemistry that uses materials fully sourced within the EU. Our patent-pending solution eliminates lithium, cobalt, nickel, and copper, replacing them with more abundant, affordable, and sustainable alternatives. Performance reaches up to 160 Wh/kg, with strong cold-weather behaviour, and our negative electrode requires 40% less energy to manufacture than conventional approaches.

That's the technical snapshot — but the deeper story is the one Emerging Europe is telling: that European energy independence will be built, not granted, and that startups across the Baltics are doing serious work toward that goal.

Why this recognition matters for NaionX

We're a Latvian deep-tech startup founded in 2025, working across Latvia, Poland, and the wider EU, backed by EU grant programs, university labs, and commercialisation partners including EIT InnoEnergy, Plug and Play, and NVIDIA Inception. Our work sits at the intersection of clean tech and dual-use defence — two areas where Europe needs sovereign capability, and quickly.

Coverage like this is part of how a deep-tech company moves from "interesting chemistry" to "credible industrial partner." It's how prospective collaborators, investors, and policy stakeholders find us. And it's how the broader narrative around sodium-ion battery technology in Europe gets built — one well-told story at a time.
